Robin Sloan and Matt Thompson have done a fascinating animation titled EPIC 2014.
The movie chronicles the future history of the media from the present and until 2014, when EPIC, the Evolving Personalized Information Construct is launched to let the masses navigate the sprawling, chaotic mediascape that make up the contents of the Internet.
I shall not spoil the ending. The movie packs a lot of food for thought into 8 minutes and 43 seconds. It delivers insight in what the nature of a media built upon reuse, personalization and social navigation, and also predicts what the fate of “old” media relying on exclusivity as its value proposition will be.
