- The pep program may, among other things, be used to
expand/compress tabs; convert to and from several character sets; to
interprete ANSI escape sequences; and to remove unwanted line noise

- If you're looking for a tool to convert between character sets (including utf-8), look at
the GNU iconv untility
and libiconv library.
- The archive contains a ANSI C source file and a binary
(pep.exe) that may be run in the command prompt window on WIN32
systems. The sources compiles without tweaking on both Unix
(Solaris) and Windows 2000.
